CounterConvention.org
The CounterConvention.org website was taken down in the fall of 2006.
What Was CounterConvention.org?
CounterConvention.org was a project put together by a group of
activists in NYC during the runup to the Republican National
Convention.
It was an attempt to rally together the diverse constituencies who
were all (and still are) distressed, abused, and mistreated by the
Republican agenda. Using a web-based mobilization
toolkit of mostly our own creation, we:
- helped organize ride shares
to and from NYC for protesting activists;
- shared housing during the
convention; promotion of protests, parties, and other events;
- published useful logistical information for the large numbers of visitors to help them navigate the city, and
- helped create a directory of activist organizations who were opposed
to the dangerous and reactionary platforms proposed by the Republicans
in our fair city.
Who worked on it?
The website and LightningBug were built by
an open collective of New York City Activists, including William
Etundi Jr., Amanda Hickman,
Dan Check, Daniel Kahn
Gillmor, Prince Serdna, Mark Libkuman, and Jamie McClelland.
Further Contact
If you want to get in touch with us, e-mail is probably the
best way. We're not checking that address very often right now,
though, so it might take us a while to get back to you.
What Next?
Many of the folks who worked on CounterConvention.org are now
actively involved with the Information/Communications Technology
working group planning for the 2007 US
Social Forum.
